In an effort to memorialize the Dawson's, we posted this sign in our window.

Vaughn distributed them at the rally in their honor. Many have since asked for copies or downloaded them here. They have popped up in windows in many parts of town. Windows in mansions. Windows in crumbling tenements.

Their murders hit hard here. Not so much for the fear they raised, as the anger. This act of urban terroism validated and reinforced the fear and despair we see daily in our neighbors and the other good people of this block who are intimidated and threatened by the drug gangs that rule our corner.

Personally, I took inspiration from that tragedy. Resolve that this is a war as important as any we may conduct abroad. And resolve to continue trying as best we could, if only in our own small way.

Whatever we do, we must not forget this horrible example of how badly we're losing the war on drugs. And not rest until we find solutions.

Lest we forget, people lost there lives in the Dawson attack, smiling young people who deserve to be amongst us today ...
